Store Deals:

Hi AFC'ers! Welcome to August. As summer vacations are winding down, stores are rolling out their end of season clearance and back to school bargains. Stop by your favorite store forums at AFC to plan your next shopping trip and maximize your savings. You'll be glad you did!

What's on Sale this Month?
By: sar1

Back to school time can be a real budget killer with growing school supply lists and last minute needs. And everyone seems to be more rushed for time so it becomes very tempting to pay full price just for the convenience. With some simple planning you can stay on budget and stock up for school. Check out the weekly deals at Staples, Office Depot, and Office Max for items as low as a penny. Even if you don’t have a child in school, look for sales and rebates on reams of printer paper – great for printing all of those hot IP’s! Don’t forget to take advantage of the Price Matching Policies at Target and Walmart to save yourself a few trips to extra stores. The hot sale items in the grocery aisles will be things to fill your lunch boxes – cold cuts, PB&J, bread, juice boxes, pudding cups and other snacks. When you can match a great sale with a coupon, check the product expiration dates and buy enough for several months to extend your savings well into the school year. To round out your school supply lists, there should be promotions for Clorox wipes, hand sanitizer and Kleenex. Finally, plan ahead for next summer by shopping the great clearance discounts on patio furniture, barbecues, pool toys and gardening accessories. Something tells me we’ll still see plenty of warm weather this year to make use of it anyway! Happy shopping!

Happy Couponing,

The AFC Administrators

Tips for Members
Did you know that there were some recent changes to our FSOT Rules? In an effort to keep the trading forums organized and safe, we have made some clarifications to the guidelines for posting in this forum. Please take a few minutes to read the updates here. Additionally, we also want to remind everyone that if you are looking for a certain coupon, those threads should be posted in the ISO Forum rather than the other trading subforums. This makes it easier for everyone to see what you're looking for and will increase your chances of getting those much needed coupons!

While most of our members are excellent traders with great reputations, sometimes a trade does not work out as expected. The team gets many questions from members regarding what to do in this situation. If you encounter a trading problem, please read this informative thread by carriemb2. She explains the steps you need to take to address the situation and help us keep the boards safe for everyone.

Hot Deals and Contests
Stop by the Hot Deals Forum to check out the latest coupons and deals that everyone is talking about! You'll find limited time offers for online and local stores, as well as awesome coupon links! For those of you who are back to school shopping, you'll want to be sure to check out the Best Deals on School Supplies thread in Hot Deals too! If you spot a hot deal and think it should be featured in the forum, please post it in the appropriate forum and then click on the "Report" button to let us know. We'll review the offer and move it to Hot Deals if needed. Thanks to everyone who helps us in finding the hottest deals out there!

Want to help out other members and have access to exclusive monthly contests? AFC's Forum Leaders are volunteers who keep a store forum updated with the latest deals, answer member questions, and move/merge/stick threads to keep things organized. Our Forum Leaders are rewarded with monthly contests and a complimentary Supporting Membership. We are always looking for new Forum Leaders. If you are interested, check out this thread for a list of the forums that are available and get more details on what's involved. We'd love to see more members join the FL Team!

Congratulations to brook6, the winner of our Awesome AFC'er award for August. Here's what she had to say about AFC:

1. Tell us a little about yourself. How long have you been a member of AFC?
I am a married, mother of 4 grown sons, 1 daughter in law and 2 granddaughters...who all benefit from my time on AFC! I live/work in TN and consider couponing one of my new hobbies. I joined AFC in March 2009, after I just happened to see an ad link on the right side of my facebook page...pure coincidence that AFC was the first such ad I noticed and I am REALLY glad it was!

2. What is you favorite feature of AFC?
My favorite feature of AFC is the database! I REALLY depend on it to find Qs to go with the deals I want, and I search there often before my coupon box. I really appreciate that so many people are willing to contribute and I enjoy the occasional 'DATABASE DYNAMO' bling for myself too!

3. How has AFC changed your shopping habits?
I used to coupon in the 90's, but quit after I had to have surgery and DH took over the shopping. Even after I took the shopping back, I had gotten out of the habit and wasn't worried about the money I was nowhere near as organized as I am now, and there was nothing like AFC [or the internet, for that matter]. I used to get anxiety when buying ANYTHING without a coupon, thinking one will come out next week. I have realized that really rarely happens, so I calm myself and go ahead. I am averaging 60+% savings, including ALL shopping, so I am satisfied for now. I use AFC before each shopping trip to help pull together shopping lists and coupons, and I sometimes use it in the store on my phone to double-check a deal.

4. What is you favorite store to shop? What stores are the most coupon friendly? What stores have the best sales/prices? I used to shop 90% Wal-Mart before I started using coupons again in 2009, thinking they were low price leader. I lived with the limited selection on some items and no ads...it was easy to go and get what I wanted and I trusted that I was getting the lowest price. I considered Publix too pricey and got mainly meats at Kroger. Now I am 90% Publix and Kroger, with Publix having a nice advantage. I know I am beating Wal-Mart's prices with sales/coupons, so I only go now for occasional deals. Publix has great quality foods and is also a great store for coupons, publishing a wide variety of store coupons almost weekly. They are also very coupon friendly with stacking, doubling and generally good customer service.

5. What is your favorite thing to stockpile and why?
I don't really call it a stockpile...more of a stash. I have decided to buy what my normal space will hold and not get carried away with buying more than I need. I do share with family and donate to local charities. I don't know if I have a favorite thing to stockpile, but I am overstocked with body wash! Don't get me wrong, I love that I can get it practically free, but I have so many brands/varieties that I want to try it is taking too long to get to them all...not to mention the men's varieties I can share with my DH and 4 DSs [when they shop my stash].

6. How do you get coupons and how do you keep them organized?
I buy 2 papers each week and run a coupon train. This keeps me in pretty good supply of the coupons I need. I have done the occasional 'dumpster dip' and trading, but I don't think I have ever purchased more than 10 of something in one trip. I have a coupon box and a smaller coupon wallet for quick trips. The coupon box is about half the size of a shoebox and I usually have 1 or 2 of each Q in there, organized in categories, then alphabetically. The rest are left at home unclipped until time to use them. I don't ever see myself with a binder, and my system works for me. Another thing I do is purge my expired Qs each month...it makes me crazy to think I have a Q in my box, only to find it is expired. This also refreshes my memory on what Qs I have and which ones are expiring this month, so I can be sure to use them in time.

7. What advice do you have for a new couponer?
First, every shopping trip CANNOT be like you see on TV. Think of coupons as a replacement for dollars you were spending...if you have 5 $1 coupons, that is $5 you can keep in your wallet or spend on something you DON'T have a coupon for. Start small and simple and work your way up to the big bucks! It all helps!

8. What advice do you have someone new to AFC?
It can be exciting and overwhelming to come to a site like AFC. There is so much here! Take your time to read and learn...ask questions; we're a friendly bunch. Focus on the store where you already spend the most...if you can make an impact there, it stays right in your pocket. There will be temptation to follow the deal postings, especially the drug stores, but once you have enough free razors and toothpaste, get back to what your family needs everyday to live/eat healthy.

Thanks AFC for coming along at a good time for me to appreciate what you have to offer and develop some new habits that are GOOD for me!
